The merger of MUIH into ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 makes ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 the nation first comprehensive university with a school solely dedicated to integrative health. With this merger, ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 suite of both conventional and integrative healthcare programs, positions itself as a leader and innovator in health program education.

• ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 is a leader and innovator in healthcare education. One of the biggest gaps in healthcare is the gulf between the usage of both conventional and integrative healthcare practices. Offering integrative health and conventional healthcare education programs within a single university is distinctive. Having conventional and integrative health programs alongside one another provides opportunities for interprofessional understanding and collaboration among faculty to advance the scholarship and research and practice of holistic healthcare.
   
• Expands nationwide access to integrative health education. Given that nearly all of its degree and certificate programs are fully online, the ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 School of Integrative Health will expand access to those individuals looking to become integrative health practitioners.
   
• Developing innovative academic programs. With the addition of the School of Integrative Health, ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 is poised to develop new and unique degree and certificate programs, for both healthcare and non-healthcare majors as well as expand existing academic programs. These new programs will further reinforce ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 leadership position in healthcare education. 
   
• Advancing research and promoting holistic healthcare. The faculty in the ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 School of Integrative Health, School of Pharmacy & Health Professions and School of Nursing will have opportunities to collaborate and advance the scholarship and research in healthcare and promote evidence-based strategies to promote patient care.

With the completion of the merger of MUIH into ÌìÃÀÂ鶹, MUIH no longer exists. Its academic programs, faculty, and students have now become part of the new ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 School of Integrative Health.

ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 is approved to participate in  (NC-SARA) which enables ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 to enroll fully remote students from 49 member states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The former MUIH was not a member of NC-SARA and was limited in the states from which it could enroll students. Under ÌìÃÀÂ鶹, the School of Integrative Health will be able to expand its reach to a broader national audience than before.

Does the merger of MUIH into ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 impact ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 existing academic programs and student services?
The final merger will not impact ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 existing academic programs and student services. It will add new faculty and more than 500 formerly MUIH graduate-level students to ÌìÃÀÂ鶹, increasing ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 graduate population by nearly 50 percent. The merger also adds more than 20 graduate-level integrative health degree and certificate programs to ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 graduate-level offerings. ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 has the capacity to support the addition of the MUIH students and employees. ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 current undergraduate and graduate programs will not be impacted. ÌìÃÀÂ鶹 student services will not change as a result. In the future, potential new interdepartmental curricular collaborations may develop that may result in new programmatic opportunities for students to pursue.

The Board of Trustees of each respective institution agreed to the merger. Additionally, federal and state regulators, along with accreditors, approved the merger of MUIH into ÌìÃÀÂ鶹. In August 2025, the final merger was completed.
 

Can currently enrolled students finish their degree programs?
There are no programs being eliminated as a result of the merger. Note that unrelated to the merger, the acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine programs are being discontinued as of December 2025, as originally planned and announced in June 2023.
